Japanese gaming company Aiming Inc. receives US$3.1M investment from Nissay Capital

Aiming Inc. just received about JPY300 million to expand its portfolio of games and go global. Is this the way to go for Japanese gaming companies?

Founded in May 2011, Japanese gaming company Aiming Inc. announced three days ago, that it has received nearly JPY300 million yen (U$3.1 million) in investment from Nissay Capital to expand its array of games and move into the global market, SD Japan reports.

Having expanded to more than 200 members, as per the Aiming website, the team is dedicated to producing browser-based and social games for both smartphones and PCs. Their portfolio of games includes titles like Sengoku IXA, published by Square Enix and Hero Quest by DeNA. Having released Blade Chronicle, a 3D-MMORPG, in 2009, Aiming was also behind Epic Of Heroes, which is available on feature phones.

Most of these titles are still very much targeted at the Japanese market. However, there are also certain titles in English, like Lord of Knights: The Conquerors, which discreetly launched on the New Zealand iOS App Store last year. It seems that these Japanese gaming companies really have to move toward going global to make a wave. Case in point, Japan’s GREE released Knight Legends in December, which was an English-language social game developed by gumi. The game had a global launch through the GREE platform, as well as Google Play for Australia, Canada, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
