Syracuse, N.Y. — The Potbelly Sandwich Shop franchise wants to open in the Syracuse area this year.

The chain is looking for a local franchisee. No details on an exact location or target opening date yet.

Potbelly got its start in 1977 in Chicago as an antique shop. The owners later began serving lunch and the shop began expanding in 1996 after the original location was acquired.

The chain now has more than 280 locations across the country.

Potbelly's menu features sandwiches, salads, soups, sides, breakfast items, baked goods and milkshakes. The company promises customers they'll be through the line in eight minutes or less.

The chain has a number of locations in New York City, but none anywhere else in the state yet.
