Tuesday Sector Laggards: Financial, Technology & Communications

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Tuesday, shares of Financial companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 0.9% loss. Within the sector, Comerica, Inc. (NYSE: CMA) and Navient Corp (NASD: NAVI) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 6.3% and 5.5%, respectively. Among financial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLF), which is down 1.7% on the day, and down 0.58% year-to-date. Comerica, Inc., meanwhile, is down 3.79% year-to-date, and Navient Corp, is down 3.04% year-to-date. Combined, CMA and NAVI make up approximately 0.6% of the underlying holdings of XLF.

The next worst performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, showing a 0.7% loss. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, Qualcomm Inc (NASD: QCOM) and Autodesk Inc. (NASD: ADSK) are the most notable, showing a loss of 4.3% and 2.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK), which is down 0.3% in midday trading, and up 2.33% on a year-to-date basis. Qualcomm Inc, meanwhile, is down 1.87% year-to-date, and Autodesk Inc. is up 6.70% year-to-date. Combined, QCOM and ADSK make up approximately 2.5% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
