Accra, Nov. 26, GNA - Ghana's premier consumer goods company, Unilever Ghana, has received the best reward for Practices in Sustainable Manufacturing at the AGI awards.

This year's awards, dubbed, 'Patronising Made-in-Ghana goods to Build Strong Industries,' sought to promote and maintain high business standards among businesses and industries in Ghana.

At the event on Staurday, in Accra, Unilever was honoured because of its innovative sustainability practices.

A statement signed by Mr Gabriel Opoku-Asare, the Head of Corporate Affairs, said Unilever achieved the remarkable feat of sending zero non-hazardous waste from its factory in fulfilment of its Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) goal of reducing its environmental impact whilst creating a positive social impact.

The statement said over the years, Unilever Ghana had undertaken various projects in line with the USLP goals that had ensured world class sustainable practices in its interactions with the environment and people within the communities it operated.

It said, 'We are happy to be recognised for our commitment to sustainable business practices. Protecting our environment will not only serve us well today, but will also help in creating a brighter future for generations to come.'

Mr. Abdelaziz Salah, the Supply Chain Director, Unilever West Africa, was quoted as saying that, 'As industry leaders, we are committed to bringing along other organisations and the government on this journey to make sustainability the norm and not the exception.'

Early this month, Unilever Ghana was adjudged the CSR Manufacturing Company of the Year at the Ghana CSR Excellence Awards.

The Ghana CSR Excellence awards, modelled after the European CSR Excellence awards, seeks to identify, verify, evaluate and reward socially-responsible activities of companies in the country, as they contribute to the nation's growth, sustainability and prosperity.

Unilever came up tops in the manufacturing category having achieved the remarkable feat of sending zero non-hazardous waste from its factory in fulfilment of its Unilever Sustainable Living Plan.

Unilever is one of the world's leading suppliers of Food, Home and Personal Care products with sales in over 190 countries.
