The Empire State Building Will Be A Sight Of Awareness For The Plight Of Endagered Creatures

On Saturday, Aug. 1 between 9-12 am, people will see illuminated creative images of endangered species on the soaring tower of the Empire State Building. The said art event "Projecting Change: The Empire Building" is to draw awareness for people regarding the animal's plight. Travis Threlkel from Obscura Digital and award-winning Oscar Director of "The Cove" Louie Psihoyos are the brains behind this event according to the article of NY Times.

The event according to Threlkel and Psihoyo is more likely referring to "weapon of mass instruction."

Threlkel explained on the NY Times article that, "We're going to try to create something beautiful. Not bum people out." And that "Hopefully, this is one big domino. If we can tip it, it would be great."

For the said event on Saturday, Threlkel and Psihoyo will be using 40 stacked, 20,000-lumen projectors and will be placing this on the roof of one of the buildings on West 31st Street. The illuminated digital image will be seen and it will cover 33 floors with a size of 375 feet tall and 186 feet wide.

The creatures that they will feature are snow leopard, a cheetah, a mandrill, a golden lion Tamarin, and many more creatures like various birds and mammals.

"We're using icons to help people talk about this virally," said Threlkel also from the article.

According to Chairman and Chief Executive of Empire State Realty Trust, Anthony Malkin, he said that, "The concept of incorporating art into the urban fabric and making a social statement is wonderful."

What a brilliant idea to bring awareness for these magnificent creatures! Threlkel and Psihoyo's idea will really shape up our perspectives on how we see these creatures. This is an important event for humanity and hopefully more to come.

The event will be part of Director Psihoyos' upcoming documentary film "Racing Extinction."

Director Psihoyos said on NY Times article that, "To create a tipping point, you probably need 10 percent of the population. With the film and this event, we are trying to reach that number. If you hit that number, then you have a chance of moving the needle."

If you're near the area or will be on that area on Saturday, hope you support this event and also through their tag #racingextinction. For more details and updates, kindly visit their website racingextinction.com.
