The New York Giants will sign Justin Tuck to a one-day contract Friday so that he can officially retire as a member of the organization.

The New York Giants are in the midst of a hectic offseason, as a lot of people are under pressure to perform with jobs on the line. But, they will take a step back from that whirlwind, at least for one day, when they sign former defensive end Justin Tuck to a one-day contract Friday.

Tuck, who announced his retirement a couple of weeks ago, will sign a one-day deal so that he can retire as a member of the organization that he began his career with. It will be a heartfelt day, as Tuck will undoubtedly provide a moving speech and give fans something to smile about with their struggles of the last couple of seasons. This has been a move that the Giants have done in recent seasons with their Super Bowl heroes, as Chris Snee and Osi Umenyiora had them recently, and Tuck will now join that list.

Tuck began his career with the Giants as a third round pick in 2005 out of Notre Dame. He quickly worked his way into the Giants defensive end rotation, and made a name for himself during the 2008 Super Bowl run, learning from the great Michael Strahan.

From there Tuck became an All-Pro and leader on the Giants defense, as he took over as the starting defensive end, a position that he held down for the next six seasons. He played in all but five games during those six regular seasons, and was the leader for the second Super Bowl over the New England Patriots in 2011 as well.

Just like Strahan before him, Tuck became a leader and someone for the younger players to look up to. He played the role of mentor for Jason Pierre-Paul, combining with Umenyiora for a fearsome pass rush. His versatility was always on display, as his willingness in the run game or to move inside to defensive tackle in certain packages showed that he could put the team ahead of his own personal success.

Tuck has remained active in the community, as he, along with his wife Lauran runs the RUSH for Literacy foundation. Off the field work is something that many Giants players are active in, and is part of the reason why Tuck is so revered by fans and the organization.

Tuck will retire as a Giant after two seasons with the Oakland Raiders, and it shouldn’t be too long later that Tuck is inducted into the Giants ring of honor, a place that he has earned a spot with his performance on and off the field.
