See Your City Program Launches New Eats Edition in New York City

See Your City Mayor Bill de Blasio, American Express, and NYC & Company have joined forces to launch New York City’s newest and largest five-borough dining program, See Your City: Eats Edition

The See Your City program was designed to motivate New Yorkers to explore local neighborhoods and boroughs, and the latest Eats Edition aims to create buzz around city restaurants by encouraging people to upload photos on to social media platforms using the hashtag #seeyourcity.

“New York City is home to inspired chefs and cuisine from every corner of the world. It’s not every city that you can cool down with Italian gelato after a spicy Sichuan dinner within a city block,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “I encourage all New Yorkers to take advantage of living in one of the most diverse cities in the world, with restaurants to match, by supporting local business and seeing their city.”

In addition to the See Your City: Eats Edition campaign, presenting sponsor American Express is offering a Card Member promotion at thousands of restaurants throughout all five boroughs of New York City. Members who use their cards at any participating restaurant and spend a minimum of $50 will receive a one-time $10 statement credit. NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, has also joined forces with American Express to provide a resource toolkit offering restaurant operators tips on how they can utilize social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to attract customers during the See Your City program. The toolkit is available at www.knowledgecenter.americanexpress.com/see-your-city-eats-edition

NYC & Company also hosts “InstaMeets” events with social media ambassadors throughout the city, uploading images to Instagram in an effort to publicize NYC’s unique dining experiences and encourage people to share their food pictures online.

The See Your City: Eats Edition campaign will be promoted through increased digital media, as well as on approximately 200 bus shelters and 100 street pole banners across the five boroughs, social platforms, print media in local outlets and food publications, commercials running in NYC taxicabs; and through American Express digital channels.

The initial See Your City program was launched in October 2014 with a campaign strategy inspired by the U.S. Travel Association’s Project: Time Off, which aimed to change mind-sets, shift American culture and motivate Americans to use more of their paid time off.
