London: Indian national and Wipro chairman Azim Premji, and Saudi citizen and Co-founder of Al Rajhi Bank Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi, have been included in the list of World's Top Philanthropists released by wealth consultancy Wealth-X and Business Insider.
While Wipro Chairman has been ranked 4th, Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi has been named at the 6th position in the list of world’s top 20 most generous people.
The study also found that education emerged as the most poular cause, with 18 out world’s top 20 philanthropists focusing on educational initiatives in their giving, whether operating through their foundations or direct donations.
The study notes that Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has donated $8 billion (nearly Rs.53,360 crore) and has ranked as fourth in the world’s top 20 philanthropists list.
Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al Rajhi, Co-founder of Al Rajhi Bank has donated $5.7 billion (about Rs.38,019 crore) and has been ranked sixth in the list.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has been ranked as No 1 on the list of top philanthropists, with $27 billion (Rs 18, 00,90 crore) in lifetime donations as of October 2015.
The study also showed that Michael Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg LP, who ranked 13th in the list, gave away over $1 billion to his alma mater John Hopkins University.
The top 20 philanthropists have given a total of $106.8 billion (Rs 71,23,56 crore) to a variety of philanthropic causes, ranging from environment and human rights to sports and entrepreneurship, says the study.
Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway ($21.5 billion), George Soros, Founder of Soros Fund Management ($8 billion) and Charles Francis Feeney, Co-founder of Duty Free Shoppers Group ($6.3 billion) on 2nd, 3rd and 5th positions in the list.
Mark Zuckerberg, Founder of Facebook, has been ranked 13th in the list with a donation of about 1.6 billion dollars.
Media giant and Founder of CNN Ted Turner has donated $2.1 billion for various causes, and has been ranked 16th in the list.
Others in the list are: Gordon Moore, Co-founder of Intel ($5 billion - Rank 7), Carlos Slim Helu a Mexican Telecom tycoon (Rank 8), Eli Broad, Co-founder of KB Home ($3.3 billion - Rank 9) and George Kaiser, Chairman of BOK Financial Corporation ($3.3 billion - Rank 10).
