Police say a boy who took a car on joyride while his mother went shopping ended up crashing through the front of a children's clothing store in Farmington Hills.

No one was injured Thursday evening in the crash at the Carter's store on Orchard Lake Road near 14 Mile Road.

Police Sgt. Mike Flatt tells The Detroit News that the boy, who had been asked to stay in the car, started driving around the parking lot before eventually putting the car in reverse and backing into the store. The car ended up well inside the building, toppling merchandise.

Flatt says it was a "lucky situation" that there were few customers inside the store at the time.

The boy was sent home with his mother. Prosecutors are expected to review the case for possible juvenile charges.
