Green Bay Southwest alum Ian LaMere was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s track performer of the week on Feb. 14.

It’s the second time in three weeks the University of Wisconsin-Platteville senior has received the award

LaMere won the 5,000-meter run at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 10.  His time of 13:54.88 (converted to 14:03.82) is the second-fastest indoor 5,000-meter run in NCAA Division III history, just two seconds shy of the record.

LaMere currently leads the DIII honor roll by over 15 seconds in the event.

Full Bloom: Seymour alum Alex Bloom was named American Athletic Conference men’s field athlete of the week on Feb. 7 after recording a conference-leading score in the heptathlon.

The University of Cincinnati junior recorded a career-best 5,604 points to win the heptathlon at the Charlie Thomas Invite Feb. 4-5 in College Station, Texas.

Bloom posted personal-bests in each event to compile the second-highest score in school history.

The 2014 Seymour graduate broke school records in heptathlon events for the long jump 23 feet, 7¼ inches and high jump 6-10¼.

Bloom leads the AAC in the heptathlon and ranks 15th at the NCAA Division I level.

Gregory going fast: St. Norbert College sophomore Jon Gregory was named Midwest Conference men’s track performer of the week on Feb. 14.

The Ashwaubenon alum set a pair of indoor personal-best records at the UW-Oshkosh Triangular on Feb. 11.

Gregory won the 400-meter dash in 49.33 seconds, which is the best time in the MWC and ranks 12th in DIII this season. Gregory also placed fifth in the 200 with a time of 22.73 seconds, which is second in the MWC.

Herman breaks record again: St. Norbert College sophomore Kristina Herman was named Midwest Conference women’s field performer of the week on Feb. 14.

The Seymour alum broke her school record in the shot put for a third straight week on Feb. 11 at the UW-Oshkosh Triangular with a throw of 43-3, which is the 19th-best mark in DIII.

Extra bases: Bay Port alumna Bailey Smaney and Green Bay Notre Dame alumna Jordan Manthei have joined the UW-Oshkosh softball team after the sophomores transferred.

Smaney, a right-handed pitcher, went 11-11 last year for UW-Green Bay. Manthei, a first baseman and catcher, was second at Asbury University (Ky.) with a .340 batting average as a freshman.

Meanwhile, Green Bay Preble alumna Kaylen Krueger hit the first home run of her college career in the University of Minnesota’s 4-1 win over Notre Dame on Nov. 17.

The freshman hit a solo home run to right field to plate the Golden Gophers’ first run in the fifth inning at Dail Field in Raleigh, N.C.
