Sony has been trying hard (too hard at times, maybe) to get back into the Android smartphone game these days, and probably had the best chance when they announced the Xperia Z5 Premium with an obnoxious 4K UHD display on a 5.5-inch screen. Whether you want something like that or not can be left for another post, but what’s interesting is that Sony is either super confused or thinks people don’t care enough to see the difference between an Xperia Z5 Premium and an Xperia Z5 Compact.

Did you notice that the phone she’s holding is unusually small and unbelievably thick for a premium flagship smartphone which will set you back by almost £699 (freaking US $1062)? Well, that’s because it’s the tiny and bulky Sony Xperia Z5 Compact being passed off as the Z5 Premium on Sony’s official YouTube channel!

Also, check the back panel. The Z5 Compact has the normal glass back that we have been seeing on Xperia Z series of smartphones, but the Z5 Premium comes with a shiny mirror glass on the back (it’s premium, you see). Also, the flash on the phone she’s holding is beside the camera (like on Z5 Compact), but on Z5 Premium, it’s below the camera. Apparently, that’s not enough for Sony to pretend they are showing the Xperia Z5 Compact as Premium.

Couple of days back, Raymond Wong of Mashable wrote how some journalists/bloggers at Sony’s official launch event at IFA 2015 were fooled into believing the normal Xperia Z5 as the Xperia Z5 Premium. And now we know that they aren’t alone!

Of course, smart people on YouTube commented about the goof-up, but Sony seems hell-bent on fooling their (possible) customers. Check out their reply.

“I know they look similar”. Really? A 4.6-inch 720p display looks similar to a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display?

Well, Sony, we all goof up at one point or the other. It’s better to apologize and move on, rather being hell bent on insisting you’re right. More than anything else, that beautiful Xperia Z5 Premium deserves better.
