- Equity options trading in January averaged 802, 485 contracts per day, an increase of 107.6% compared to January 2003. The Exchange’s market share in equity options for January was 15.1%, up 21% from the same year-ago period. Compared to the previous month, equity options volume increased 18.2% when the exchange averaged 617,195 contracts traded per day.
- Sectors index options trading volume in January increased 115.5% when 453,055 contracts traded compared to the same month last year when 210,265 contracts traded. Sector index option volume increased 23.2% when compared to the previous month when 367,729 contracts traded.
- Equity volume for January reached 331,017,910 shares, up 26.2% compared to the previous month when 262,365,782 shares traded. Volume was up 17.8% compared to the same period last year when 281,118,277 shares traded.
- Trading volume in January in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 38,537 contracts, an 80.1 % increase from the same month last year when 21,394 contracts traded. Volume increased 14.7% from the previous month when 33,603 contracts traded.
- PHLX set volume records on both floors during the month - for equity options when 1,504,657 contracts traded on January 6, and for equities, when over 21 million shares traded on January 15.
