Scana Propulsion will supply fuel-efficient diesel-electric propulsion systems for two offshore vessels that will be used in Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras)'s operations in Brazil, industry news site Your Oil and Gas News reports.

The NOK 38 million ($6.2 million) contract is for equipment for two Well Intervention vessels that Flensburger Schiffbau GmbH of Germany is building for Norway's Siem Offshore, which will charter them to Helix Energy Solutions.

The propulsion systems include two cp-propellers, connected to two reduction gearboxes, with each propeller driven by two electric motors.

The equipment is scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarters of 2015.

In addition, Scana Propulsion will deliver reduction gearboxes for a Multipurpose Installation vessel designed by Rolls Royce for Island Offshore.

Petrobras said last year that it planned to more than triple oil production from deep-water fields.
