HOUSTON, TX - Houston-based Stage Stores Inc. is sponsoring the 62nd Cherokee National Holiday, and presented the tribe with a check for $10,000 this week.

"Stage Stores is honored to support the 62nd Cherokee National Holiday," said Russ Lundy, executive vice president of Stores. "Our company values our customers and supports the communities where our stores are located."

This is the fourth year that Stage has been a sponsor of the Cherokee National Holiday. The Stage department store is located at 907 S Muskogee Avenue in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the capital of the Cherokee Nation. There are more than 10 Stage Stores located in smaller cities inside or very near the 14-counties of the Cherokee Nation.

"The Cherokee Nation is thankful to have a community partner like Stage Stores that supports our annual homecoming and celebration. The Cherokee National Holiday attracts thousands of visitors to Tahlequah each and every year," said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker. "We are honored to have opportunities to partner with corporations like Stage, which help further the mission of the Cherokee Nation."

The Cherokee Nation has also partnered with Stage in recent years on back-to-school clothing vouchers and winter coat vouchers for income eligible families. More than 7,000 Stage back-to-school clothing vouchers worth $100 and nearly 7,000 Stage coat vouchers worth $75 were issued to Cherokee children in the past year.

The Cherokee Nation is the federally recognized government of the Cherokee people. The holiday has been observed annually since 1953 and commemorates the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Nation Constitution.
