Lubbock police arrested a man they say threatened and assaulted two off-duty officers while possibly intoxicated at University Medical Center on Tuesday night.

At 10:40 p.m., officials say, 26-year-old Ren Allen was initially brought to the UMC emergency room by a family member for medical issues from imbibing alcohol and possibly other unknown substances.

Seeking help, Allen's family member contacted off-duty officers who were working as security at the hospital.

According to the police report, Allen was reportedly "drinking and uncontrollable."

Allen, the report states, was picked up by a family member from a Texas Roadhouse restaurant where he was assisted into a vehicle.

The family member reported that while trying to place Allen into the vehicle Allen fell onto the floorboard, hitting his head numerous times, which raised concerns about his welfare.

On the way to the hospital, the report states, Allen did not recognize the family member.

Upon arrival, the two officers assisted the family member in placing Allen into a wheelchair and bringing him into the hospital.

A witness at the scene, the report states, immediately noticed Allen was in an aggressive and combative state, as he was swinging with a closed fist.

Officials say one of the officers noticed Allen swinging and ducked down, missing the punch.

Continuing to swing, Allen connected with the second officer, striking him in the right eye.

The witness reported the second officer placed Allen in a headlock in order to gain control of Allen's behavior.

The report states the second officer fell to the ground, injuring his left elbow and causing it to bleed.

Allen was still reported as being in a combative state.

As the officers used a Taser to gain compliance, the witness reported, Allen became more combative and extremely angry.

Trying to assist the officers in handcuffing Allen, the witness reportedly grabbed Allen's arm.

"(The witness) advised he heard (Allen) telling both officers he was going to kill one of them by stabbing him in front of his family and told the other officer he was going to kill his family," the report states.

Allen was received by the hospital for medical evaluation.

Upon clearance, he was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and faces two counts of assault on a public servant and two counts of retaliation.

He was being held on a $30,000 bond.

One of the officers refused medical treatment, while the other was treated for the injury to his elbow.

Police were informed, the report states, that Allen did have a prescription for depression medication, but it was unknown if he had ingested a different substance.

According to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Texas Roadhouse does not have any pending investigations, nor does it have a case history.

Local Texas Roadhouse officials said they were unaware of the situation and that comment from the corporate office is pending.

No other information, including Allen's blood alcohol content level, was released.
