Carrollton will welcome a new Rite Aid early next year.

The store is located by the intersection of Carrollton Boulevard and Smiths Neck Road.

Independence Construction broke ground on the pharmacy in May, according to project manager Leonard Provost. He anticipates it to be complete in January.

Provost said the main motive for the store opening was mainly as a convenience factor. The store will be the first in Carrollton, though another store is located in Smithfield There is a heavier concentration in the Western Branch and North Suffolk area, with four stores currently.

“We are filling the void here with Rite Aid,” Provost said.

This year alone, there have been two store openings within the area. There was an opening on Holland Road in March and one on College Drive in April.

The 12,000-square-foot building is currently undergoing interior construction, Provost said. The project has not faced major setbacks and is on schedule for January, he added.

“Everything’s going smooth,” Provost said.

The facility will feature easy-to-read signage, an expanded merchandise selection and easy access to the pharmacy. There will also be a private consultation room where pharmacists can talk with patients, give immunizations and conduct other clinical services.
