Redskins place kicker Dustin Hopkins has been named the NFC special teams player of the week for his performance in Sunday’s 29-27 victory over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. Hopkins made five field goals, a career high, including the game-winning 37-yarder with 1:51 left in the game. He also hit field goals of 25, 33, 45 and 49 yards.

“I’m going to do the best I can to put the team in position to win,” Hopkins said after the game. “If that means sending me out there five times, then I’m going to go out there five times. I’m sure people on the team, myself included, everyone loves touchdowns. But to be even a small part of a win is an awesome thing.”

His 5-for-5 outing tied a franchise record for field goals in a single game, and it’s the first time a Redskins kicker has recorded five field goals since Shaun Suisham on Nov. 4, 2007. In his second season with the Redskins, Hopkins has made all 11 field goals and five extra points. The Florida State product has made 16 consecutive field goals overall, including the playoffs. He hasn’t missed a field goal attempt since Week 11 last season against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I was just fortunate the balls were going in today,” Hopkins said Sunday.

It is Hopkins’s first career special teams player of the week honor and the 15th time a Redskins player has received the accolade. Hopkins was signed following the season opener in 2015 when the Redskins released Kai Forbath, who was the last Redskins player to earn special teams player of the week, in Week 8 of the 2014 season.

In 19 games (including playoffs) with the Redskins, Hopkins is 37 of 40 on field goals and 45 of 47 on extra points.
