Wincor Nixdorf has shipped 10,000 ATM cash- and check-deposit modules

Wincor Nixdorf Inc., the U.S.  subsidiary of Wincor Nixdorf AG, today announced that it shipped 10,000 cash- and check-deposit modules (CCDM) to U.S. banks between November 2002 and July 2010.

“The shipment of the 10,000th CCDM marks a significant milestone in the adoption of innovative ATM solutions that transform the banking experience,” said Patrick Wright, president and CEO of Wincor Nixdorf Inc., which is based in Austin, Texas. “This technology is a key component of our ProCash ATM family, an innovative and advanced line of solutions proven to deliver a significant competitive advantage for financial institutions.”

The module enables bank customers to deposit a combination of banknotes and checks into one ATM slot instead of using two slots, one for cash and another for checks. The CCDM module accepts up to a combination of 50 banknotes and checks at one time. Cardholders also can deposit separately 50 checks and an equal number of banknotes.

The deposit amount appears on the ATM’s monitor, and bank cardholders then approve the transaction, said a Wincor Nixdorf spokesperson.

Wincor Nixdorf technicians can install the module in ProCash machines currently in service, or financial institutions can order ProCash ATMs with CCDM already installed. Wincor Nixdorf rolled out the module eight years ago.

“The advantages of the Wincor Nixdorf’s CCDM technology include reducing costs for financial institutions, such as those arising from extensive post-processing of night- safe deposits,” company officials said in a statement. Wincor Nixdorf estimates banks can save up to $125,000 per branch, a figure based on seven-year module depreciation.

Wincor Nixdorf AG, which is based in Paderborn, Germany, is the world’s second-largest manufacturer of ATMs based on annual shipments, according to Retail Banking Research, a strategic research and consulting firm based in London.
