Tesla Is A Top Pick, China Lodging Upgraded, Gamestop A Buy

Baird named Tesla (TSLA) a top pick in 2017, Deutsche Bank upgraded China Lodging Group (HTHT), and Mizuho initiated coverage on Gamestop (GME) with a buy rating.

Tesla

Baird Equity Research named the electric car maker a top stock pick for 2017. Automotive analyst Ben Kallo reiterated an outperform rating and price target of 338. "We think the ramp of Tesla Energy and Model 3 production could exceed expectations during 2017, and believe the opportunity is not currently reflected in share prices," Kallo said in a report.

Tesla stock rose as high as 217.50 soon after the market open, but erased all those gains and closed 0.5% lower at 213.69 on the stock market today. Tesla this week moved above its 200-day moving average for the first time in four months.

China Lodging Group

Deutsche Bank upgraded China Lodging Group to buy with a price target of 60.

U.S.-listed shares of China Lodging jumped 6% to close at 51.84. The stock jumped 66% in 2016, but has slipped from a high of 53.36 set on Dec. 13.

Gamestop

Mizuho initiated coverage on Gamestop with a buy rating and PT of 35, after Standpoint research on Thursday started the stock at buy and PT of 34.

Gamestop dipped 0.3% to end at 25.26, with shares about flat for 2016.

Mizuho also initiated Zynga (ZNGA) at buy with a PT of 3.50. Shares slipped 1% to 2.57 Friday.

In other analyst moves, Standpoint Research Thursday upgraded Newmont Mining (NEM) to buy with a PT of 42. Shares fell 3% Friday after soaring 7.6% Thursday to 35.27, as gold prices rallied this week.

Piper Jaffray raised Comerica's (CMA) PT to 71 from 68; shares in the super regional bank rose 0.3% to 68.11.

Northland Capital markets initiated coverage of biotech Intrexon (XON) with an outperform rating and PT of 40. Shares dropped 2.5% to 24.30.
