Earnings report

Companies reporting quarterly earnings Thursday included:

Chesapeake Energy, the nation’s second-largest naturalgas driller, a loss of $921 million, or $1.44 a share, from a loss of $3.74 billion, or $5.72 per share. Revenue fell 39 percent to $993 million. Shares rose 6 cents to close Thursday at $5.71.

Kellogg Co., the cereal maker, a profit of $175 million, or 49 cents a share, down from $227 million, or 64 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue fell 4.5 percent to $3.4 billion. Shares fell $1.97 to $75.05.

Merck & Co. Inc., the second-biggest U.S. drugmaker, a profit of $1.13 billion, or 40 cents a share, up from $953 million, or 33 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose $9.31 billion. Shares fell 72 cents to $54.09.

SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc., the theme park operator, a loss of $84 million, or $1 a share, from a loss of $43.6 million, or 51 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose to $220.2 million. Shares fell 98 cents to $18.49.
