Amazon’s big Prime Day was derided by most as a glorified online garage sale, but Atlanta-based consumer products giant Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE: NWL) has reason to celebrate the event.

Amazon’s big Prime Day was derided by most as a glorified online garage sale, but Atlanta-based consumer products giant Newell Rubbermaid Inc. (NYSE: NWL) has reason to celebrate the event.

According to Amazon, 28,000 Rubbermaid 42-Piece Easy Find Lid Food Storage Sets sold on Wednesday, compared with 428 the previous Wednesday. That made it one of the top selling items on Amazon during the Prime Day sale.

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) celebrated its 20th anniversary by offering a day of “more deals than Black Friday” for its Prime members, but many customers took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the sale by using the hashtag #PrimeDayFail.

Lots of customers said they found the deals to be lackluster. One Twitter user said “ #PrimeDay is pretty dumb, unless you want to save on suntan lotion, aspirin, gummy vitamins and outdated tech.” Another said “The best deal I’ve seen so far is 15% off a box of pop tarts. #AmazonPrimeDay,” The New York Times reports.
