Former Apple Engineers Come up with Green, Environmentally Sustainable Design Furniture

Campaigns, a new e-commerce start-up that offers a line of chairs and sofas that can be assembled even without any tools, was recently launched by former Apple engineers, Brad Sewell and Raul Molina. The furniture company's main objective is to meet the need of budget and design conscious buyers.

Campaigns' products are made from lightweight, yet sturdy and durable materials, some even coming from a firm which produces parts for the automotive company, Tesla Motors. A distinct edge of Campaigns' products is its ingenious modular design which allows its pieces, such as those of a sofa, to be delivered as parcel via domestic shippers like FedEx or UPS. It also offers free shipping and returns on all their products. Available for pre-sale are an armchair for $495 and a two-seater loveseat for $745. Next on their drawing board are tables, dining room and bedroom sets, bathroom and outdoor furniture.

Sewell's inspiration to start the furniture business came after his frustration of being able to find quality and affordable furniture for his new apartment after he left the tech giant to pursue his MBA. He likewise got tired seeing those cheaply manufactured furniture being disposed of after every couple of years. "There's not much in between IKEA and competitive lifestyle brands like CB2 and West Elm," said Sewell.

He initially collaborated with his father who was a carpenter and then decided to take his dream a step further as he wondered if it is possible to send someone a couch by mail. He and his partner, Molina, then spent hours thinking on how to produce low-cost, easy to assemble furniture that could be shipped. They have been developing prototypes since 2014.

Sewell, 28, worked as a supply base engineer for iPod and iPhone, while Molina, 29, also worked in manufacturing design at Apple. The duo got to know each other when they were still working for Honda.
