When Tiffany Trump, the youngest daughter of President Donald Trump, sat front row at Philipp Plein's show at New York Fashion Week, she hit the headlines for the empty seats surrounding her. It seems other guests were not happy with her presence, and showed their disapproval by refusing to sit next to her.

As Fashionista's editor-in-chief wrote on Twitter: 'Seating sh*tshow at Philipp Plein because no editors want to sit near Tiffany Trump. SHOCKER.'

Now the designer himself has spoken out to defend the First Daughter, telling TMZ: 'Tiffany Trump is not a politician. She's a teenager – what is she 22 or 23 year old? I don't think she had anything to do with the drama. Can you blame a family member, a daughter, for her father and his wrong political direction?

'I'm not a politician, I'm not here to judge anyone; I couldn't care less, I just think it's not right to treat someone without respect because he or she is the daughter of somebody that people don't like.'

The controversy wasn't of Plein's creation: he revealed that he didn't actually invite Tiffany, she asked to come.

'There was an interest from her PR office saying that she wanted to see the show and I said why not?' he said. 'I do fashion. We are a free country and I let everyone come to the show that's interested. It's my first NY show; why shouldn't people come in?'

Tiffany has been a regular presence at New York Fashion Week, sitting front row at Taoray Wang, Vivienne Tam and Dennis Basso, as well as Philipp Plein. Her elder sister Ivanka has recently found herself in hot water, with anti-Trump protesters boycotting her fashion line and several high profile stores dropping it, most notably Nordstrom.
