Eriksson urges Rooney to make China move

Wayne Rooney has been urged to move to China by former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Eriksson is currently in charge of Shanghai SIPG and he believes Rooney would fit right in in China.

"Football is becoming huge here and they have very big ambitions for the Chinese Super League," Eriksson told The Sun.

"We already have famous players, like Robinho, Asamoah Gyan and Demba Ba, and they have brought something special.

"But of course Rooney is at another level."

Rooney, though, has three years left on his current Manchester United contract and any bid for the striker is expected to be made when his deal ends in 2018.

The 23-year-old was rumoured to be on Louis van Gaal's radar during the summer but a concrete bid never materialised.

He has continued to impress this season and it is understood United will move to sign the attacker.

Saints are unwilling to sell him in January though, but could let the Senegal international leave at the end of the season.

PSG to fight for Ronaldo

Mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain are ready to break the bank to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, writes MirrorFootball's John Cross.

The French giants are willing to pay Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo - preparing to play Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday - a deal worth a staggering £250,000-a-week AFTER tax.

That would be the equivalent of £500k-a-week by Premier League standards, with tax to consider, and almost certainly blows Manchester United out of the water.

It comes after Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes said it would be “impossible” for the 30-year-old to leave Madrid.

But that will not deter PSG. They regard Ronaldo as the perfect successor to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is set to leave next summer when his contract expires.

Van Gaal: Rooney's place isn't guaranteed

Louis van Gaal has warned Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney he cannot expect to walk straight back into the side, writes MirrorFootball's David McDonnell.

Rooney missed United's 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday through illness, but wasback in training with the squad this morning at the club's AON Training Complex.

But Van Gaal warned his skipper it was not automatic that he will go straight back into the starting line-up against PSV Eindhoven tomorrow.

“That is not automatic," said Van Gaal at his pre-match press conference. "It is always a decision of the manager.

"I compare, I compare always players with each other and I take into account that how fit they are and how fit they show in the training sessions."

De Gea backs Memphis to shine

David De Gea has warned PSV Eindhoven that Memphis Depay could come back to haunt his old club after rediscovering his Manchester United shooting boots, writes MirrorFootball's Matt Lewis.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal handed Depay his first Premier League start for seven weeks on Saturday and the forward repaid him with the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Watford.

It was his first United strike since September and will give the Dutchman a timely confidence boost as he prepares to take on his old club in the Champions League at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

“He has had a tough few weeks and I’m sure he’ll soon be back at the top of his game,” De Gea explained to MUTV.

“He’s going to bring a lot to the team and I’m sure he’ll be really up for playing against his old club."

Shaw to undergo scan

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is set to undergo a scan on Friday to determine the progress of his recovery from a double leg break, writes MirrorFootball's Liam Prenderville.

The England international suffered the horrific injury after a challenge from Hector Moreno during United's Champions League clash with PSV back in September.

It was initially feared that Shaw would miss the remainder of the season and Euro 2016 but club medics are now hopeful he will play in United's final few games of the season.

And ahead of the Red Devils' reverse fixture with PSV at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal has revealed plans for Shaw's rehabilitation - with the defender set to have four days off ahead of his scan.

He added: “Shaw was fed up with the daily routine and I saw why he was fed up - maybe because it was PSV.”
