Real estate experts said it means homes will go up for sale.

“Of course, in our industry, we're talking, how is this going to change things?” said Jenna Jacupke, who works for Berkshire Hathaway Home-Service Ambassador Real Estate.

“It's probably going to affect the higher-end market more so than the rest of the market,” Jacupke said. “I think people are going to be OK as long as they understand they might need to be more competitive with price.”

Nebraska Realty President Andy Alloway said ConAgra’s move is a blow to the Omaha community, but more homes for sale in their market could be a good thing.

He said there’s not enough homes to meet the demands of buyers in Omaha right now.

“The fact is our inventory in our Omaha market is really low right now, and so we can afford to have some more properties come on the market,” Alloway said.

The experts said their advice for people with homes already on the market, and for the ConAgra employees with life changes ahead, is to take their time and not panic.

“It may not be the right time to do anything right now, and I think that's part of what we need to help advise on,” Alloway said.

Alloway said it would have been much more daunting to put a home on the market a few years ago, but Omaha’s economy is healthier and its real estate industry can handle an influx of new listings.
