WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Vulcan Materials Co. (VMC), the largest U.S. producer of construction aggregates, reported net income for the second quarter of $48.2 million or $0.36 per share, compared to $46.0 million or $0.35 per share for the year-ago quarter.
Income from continuing operations for the second quarter was $49.8 million or $0.37 per share, compared to $46.5 million or $0.35 per share in the prior year quarter.
Excluding items, adjusted earnings from continuing operations for the second quarter were $0.66 per share, compared to $0.36 per share in the second quarter of last year.
Total revenue for the second quarter rose 13% to $895.14 million from $791.14 million a year ago.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.63 per share on revenue of $883.79 million for the second quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
