AMAG Pharmaceuticals appoints new vice president, general counsel and secretary

WALTHAM — AMAG Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Waltham-based specialty pharmaceuticals company, announced the addition of Joseph Vittiglio to the company as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.

In this position, Vittiglio will oversee all legal affairs of the company. He has more than 18 years of legal and operations experience counseling biopharmaceutical and specialty pharmaceutical companies in product development, commercialization and launch, corporate finance and partnering transactions, governance and litigation.

Vittiglio most recently served as vice president of legal affairs and a member of the management committee at Flexion Therapeutics Inc. From 2007 to 2015, he served as general counsel of AVEO Pharmaceuticals and prior, served as director of legal affairs at Oscient Pharmaceuticals Corporation. He began his legal career as an associate attorney at Gaffin & Krattenmaker before joining Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo as a senior attorney. He holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from Tufts University and a Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law.
