Some Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) ads are spreading malware to people who visit the links associated with these ads.

Yahoo adsAnti-malware and internet security software Malwarebytes discovered the issue, reporting that the attack started on July 28. The issue has since been resolved.

Yahoo did not comment on how long the threat lasted but said the company is launching an investigation into the matter. Adobe Flash contained a bug that leveraged the attack.

The scheme works in the following way–hijackers buy digital ad space, add malicious software to legitimate sites and hack into the computers of Internet users who access these sites and softwares.

The malware affected Yahoo ads in the website’s sports, news and finance sites.

YHOO stock is up 1.17% Tuesday.
