Spartanburg shares possible concept for new high school; forums planned
Spartanburg School District 7 officials have shared a plan, still in concept only, for the possibility of a new high school, a new elementary school and relocation of a middle school.The district shared the concept Tuesday that is being considered for a new Spartanburg High School that could open within the next four years.The site of the new high school would be East Main Street and Webber Road near the Home Depot, in the current proposal.If the plan goes through, a new elementary school could replace two current elementary schools.One year after the new high school opens, McCracken Middle School would move into the old Spartanburg High building, if the plan, as it stands, ends up approved.Teachers at the high school were told about the concept for the new school Tuesday afternoon. The plan will also be shared Tuesday night at the school board meeting.There will be public forums held on the plan: Wed., Oct. 14, 5-6 p.m., SHS AtriumThurs., Oct. 15, 6-7 p.m., SHS AtriumTues., Oct. 20, 6-7 p.m., Carver Middle SchoolWed. Oct. 21, 5-6 p.m., Chapman Elementary School media centerTuesday night, Spartanburg School District 7 trustees voted to approve the concept of moving forward with plans for exploring a new Spartanburg High School.
