OKLAHOMA CITY – The Department of Defense named Devon Energy as a 2015 winner of the Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for support of employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.

The Defense Department recognized 15 employers with the Freedom Award this year. Devon, the only Oklahoma employer selected, will join the other honorees during the 20th Annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award ceremonies Aug. 20-21 in Washington, D.C.

“We’re proud of our employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve and to be recognized as a company that supports their service,” said Frank Rudolph, executive vice president of human resources. “The dedication these veterans demonstrate in their service to our country fits well within the Devon culture, and we remain committed to hiring military personnel. Their skill, discipline and integrity are the same attributes we value in all of our employees.”

The Freedom Award was created in 1996 to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees. Up to 15 employers are honored each year.

In 2012, Devon created a goal that 6 percent of all new hires would have a military background. Last year, 10 percent of new hires had served their country.

Devon Energy Corp. is an independent energy company engaged in finding and producing oil and natural gas. Based in Oklahoma City, Devon operates in several oil and natural gas plays in the U.S. and Canada.
