Majesco Entertainment's days as a games publisher are over. The publisher behind games like Cooking Mama, A Boy and His Blob, and Shadow Warrior has been in distress since at least 2014, but a pending merger has solved things. Majesco has merged with a regenerative medicine company by the name of PolarityTE and the combined entity will be shifting its focus from games publishing to be totally committed to regenerative medicine.
The deal allows Polarity to use Majesco's NASDAQ listing on Wall Street while also saving the publisher from closing its doors entirely. Once the transactions are finalized and the merger is completed, Majesco Entertainment will adopt Polarity's name as the medical research company becomes a subsidiary of the former publisher. The unified company will still use Majesco's NASDAQ listing of COOL, but there won't be any more games coming out of Majesco's doors.
The merger has been approved by the board of directors for both companies, but won't be finalized until NASDAQ and shareholders both approve. The press release didn't disclose any plans for Majesco's gaming-related assets, though THQ Nordic probably wouldn't mind buying up even more IP. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Majesco's IP will be auctioned off or sold outright, but only time will tell.
