Derek Lam teamed up with Athleta for the retailer's very first designer collab and the results seem surprisingly upscale based on the lookbook the brand just released. Athleta, Gap Inc.'s fitness brand, usually sits somewhere between Old Navy and Gap in terms of both price point and aesthetic, but the Derek Lam collab pushes more towards an aspirational, fashion-forward feel.

The collection balances between $69 tank tops and $98 leggings for actual exercise and a variety of leather shorts, joggers, and jackets for post-workout wear. The leather pieces run from $228 for a pair of shorts to $495 for a full jacket, although most of the outerwear won't be available until the holiday collection is released. The collab also includes a couple of cashmere sweaters for $228 apiece.

Athleta does have a small selection of cashmere and leather products available on the site—although nothing at that price level—so it'll be interesting to see if the collab takes off with Athleta's shoppers. The pieces will be available in stores and online starting Sept. 9th.
