Leggett & Platt To Establish Manufacturing Center In Northwest Pasco County, Florida

07/24/2015
Leggett & Platt, a global manufacturer of diversified products, plans to locate its new 80,000 square foot manufacturing facility at 15800 Hudson Avenue, near Spring Hil,l in northwest Pasco County, Florida. The expansion is expected to create approximately 124 new jobs over the next few months.

The Spring Hill operation will assemble adjustable bed bases for use in the home. Increasing consumer demand and the need to develop a southeastern U.S. production and distribution capacity prompted Leggett & Platt to explore locating an operation in Pasco according to Michael Altman, Director of Labor Relations for Leggett & Platt.

The decision to locate in Pasco was made after working closely with the Pasco Economic Development Council to determine the availability of the local workforce to fully staff the new assembly plant. Throughout the process, representatives of Leggett & Platt stressed their desire to hire from the local labor force and source suppliers within 100 miles of the facility.

“When a company like Leggett & Platt moves into Pasco County, it is a huge event,” said John Hagen, President/CEO of Pasco EDC. “The company’s pledge to source materials and services from regional companies as well as provide well-paying jobs to area residents will have a positive economic impact, not only on Pasco County, but in the Tampa Bay region as a whole.” He added, “It will instantly be one of our top employers, and with a company of this caliber, we would not be surprised to see future phases as well.”

According to Pasco Economic Development officials, the company is wasting no time getting settled in its new location. Its operations are expected to be up-and-running by mid-autumn. Leggett & Platt is already working with CareerSource Pasco Hernando as part of its hiring efforts.
