New application for iOS devices uses biometrics for document security

A Lamar University student and a former Lamar graduate will soon launch Lockbox, a new document and file storage application for iOS devices that uses biometric data to provide a greater level of security, according to a report by The Orange Leader.

Senior business marketing major Latt Bukovicky and MBA graduate Charles Teel worked with Lamar’s Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship in developing Lockbox and its business plan.

Available in Apple’s app store later this week, Lockbox is designed to work with Apple’s fingerprint recognition feature, Touch ID.

“Lockbox uses Amazon servers off-site and is encrypted with the biometric fingerprint that you have to have in order to access the information,” said Bukovicky. “The app utilizes a major feature that Apple brought out for developers in this last development kit.”

Bukovicky joined Teel, the owner and founder of mobile software firm Pocket Watch, in developing the application.

The app will be offered for free for up to five files of 1MB each, along with tiered plans that range in price and storage size.

The $5 annual plan will enable users to store five files of unlimited size, the $10 plan will enable storage of 20 files of unlimited size, and the $15 plan will enable unlimited storage.
