CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The restoration of the historic mural at the corner of Main Street and Third Avenue in downtown Conway is complete.

The artist, Tommy Simpson, says the project took two months to complete; the first month was spent repairing the stucco wall and the second month was spent painting.

The Mural Restoration Committee will host a Mural Dedication Ceremony for the community on Tuesday, July 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the mural's location, according to a Conway Downtown Alive news release.

Simpson says it has been rewarding working on the mural, which was originally painted in 1983.

The City of Conway, local businesses, the property owner and many contributors partnered with the Mural Restoration Committee over the last 12 months to help restore the fading mural.

Conway Downtown Alive is a non-profit organization that aims to fuel economic growth, inspire historic preservation and promote the strength of downtown Conway, the release states.
