A warehouse worker in Pompano Beach fell from a ladder Tuesday and was impaled by a pool cue, a city official said.

The man, 22, was working at a facility at 1371 SW Eighth Street when he was injured around 10:40 a.m., said Sandra King, spokeswoman for Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.

“Paramedics trimmed the pool cue a few feet so we could transport him to Broward Health North for surgery,” King said. “The pool stick struck the worker in his chest near his armpit, and went through to his back.”

The patient was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital in Deerfield Beach, King said.

He is an employee of Precision Metal Industries, said Greg Wilson, Jr., the company’s general manager. Wilson declined to comment further, citing his concerns for his colleague.

Precision Metal Industries is a sheet metal fabricator that also creates custom hardware, containers and other products “for the defense, medical, avionics and electronics industries,” according to the company’s website.
