Eli Manning, Odell Beckham get whole first half to get on track

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants take on the New York Jets in a preseason game at 7 p.m. ET Saturday at MetLife Stadium. Here are a couple of things to watch for during the game:

Why watch: This is the Giants' third preseason game, and Tom Coughlin plans to play his healthy starters for basically the entire first half. That means quarterback Eli Manning, who was 4-for-14 last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Odell Beckham Jr., who failed to catch any of the five passes Manning threw to him in that game, will have more time to show off the connection that electrified Giants fans last December. Rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers also gets a tougher test than he got last week against the banged-up Jaguars defensive line.

Did you know: The Giants play the Jets every preseason because it saves travel for both teams, so there have been memorable moments. Victor Cruz burst onto the scene in a preseason game against the Jets in 2010, catching three touchdowns before anyone knew who he was. Cruz also had one of his most famous regular-season moments against the Jets when he caught that 99-yard touchdown pass against them on Christmas Eve 2011 to spark the Giants' most recent Super Bowl run. Unfortunately for the Giants, Cruz isn't playing in this game due to a calf injury that came up during his recovery from last year's knee surgery.
