Man's bike stolen while shopping for a bike lock: South Euclid Police Blotter

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio

Theft, Warrensville Center Road:

A man said May 19 his bike was stolen from a bike rack in front of Walmart while he was in the store shopping for a bike lock. The bike was left unlocked and a parking lot attendant said he believed it was taken by one of two boys that were hanging around the bike rack when the man arrived.

Impaired driving, Monticello Boulevard:

Officers stopped a vehicle at 1:10 a.m. May 19 that was driving at an estimated speed of five miles-per-hour. The driver was sitting Indian style and said she had been driving around, sitting exactly how she was, for the past two hours. She said she was running for president and thinking about things and that she was also looking at nature. The South Euclid woman was subsequently arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired and slow speed. On the way to the station, she yelled from the back of the cruiser to other drivers, "follow me home."

Trespassing, Warrensville Center Road:
A boy, 12, who had previously been banned from Walmart for stealing cell phones, was seen at the store at 8:08 p.m. May 13 looking at cell phones. He was taken to the loss prevention office where his mother arrived to pick him up at 11:15 p.m. Reports indicated the boy had recently been released from the juvenile detention center after a five month stay.

Disturbance, Mayfield Road:

A woman said May 15 her son, 18, was threatened the previous evening by a man who had a gun. She said he was walking when he heard a gunshot and then saw a known 18-year-old man running towards him. She said he ran up a driveway and the suspect ran in another direction. She also said the same man robbed her son of over $400 while in the Wendy's parking lot in Cleveland Heights in March. Since that incident, she said he has been threatening her son's life. Officers told the woman to have her son, who was too afraid to report the incident, keep any documented communications from the suspect.

Disturbance, South Green Road:

A woman said May 18 her son, 12, and a friend were spoken to in a demeaning manner while at the South Euclid library. Officers spoke to a librarian, who said several patrons complained about the boys being loud and disruptive. She identified the man who the boys complained about and officers spoke to him. He denied saying anything demeaning and said the boys were playing games on individual computers and were speaking loudly because they were wearing headsets. Officers told the boy's mother what they had learned and she said she would speak to her son about his disruptive behavior.

Information received, South Green Road:

A woman and her son, 11, reported May 13 they were threatened by a man while they were playing during recess at Greenview Elementary School. The students were said to be playing near a backyard on Shirley Road and were barking at a dog that was barking back at them. At this time, the owner of the dog was said to have made an indirect threat to shoot them. Officers went to the home in question and spoke to the owner. She said the man was her 82-year-old father and he only told the kids he was going to call the police if they didn't stop. She said he does not live at the home and to her knowledge, doesn't even have a gun.

Juvenile complaint, South Green Road:

A woman reported May 5 her nine-year-old daughter was assaulted at Greenview Elementary School by another student who punched her and pushed her to the ground while in the library. Officers spoke to the mother of the boy May 13. She said the incident started when the girl called her son a derogatory name and said she constantly bullies him. Officers could not determine who the primary aggressor was but believed both children were mutually fighting. Both parents asked that the incident just be documented. The boy was suspended from school as a result of the incident.

Overdose, Clinton Avenue:

Officers responded to a home at 9:43 p.m. May 14 for a report of a man who was incoherent and having trouble breathing. It was learned he had smoked PCP. The South Euclid man, 40, was taken to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment.

Breaking and entering, Warrensville Center Road:

Officers responded to a burglar alarm at Buckeye Medical Supply around 4 a.m. May 13 and found the front glass door broken out, but no suspect in the area. The owner of the business later reported $80 was missing from the cash register and an envelope containing $150 cash and deposit slips was also missing. A hammer that did not belong to the business was located on an office chair and collected as evidence. The total loss, including the cost to repair the door, was $2,230.

Juvenile complaint, South Green Road:

A woman said May 18 a boy pushed her daughter, 9, to the ground and began punching her after they got into an argument during recess at Greenview Elementary School. The girl had a red area on her cheek and the woman asked to press charges against the boy and a second student who was also said to hit her daughter. The school's assistant principal reviewed surveillance video and told officers before anything became physical, the girl picked up a handful of mulch and threw it at the boy. The school was not able to provide contact information for the other students without a subpoena.

Disturbance, Mayfield Road:

Officers responded to the Riverstone Pub at 1:40 a.m. May 14 for a report of a large fight inside the bar. There was no evidence of a fight, but a man began yelling and swearing at them about the length of time it took them to arrive. He directed offensive language at officers and initially refused to identify himself. He was asked to leave and did, but returned a short time later and began shouting at officers again. The South Euclid man, 30, was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct; intoxication.

A second man was found in the men's restroom and asked to leave the bar because he was causing a disturbance. Around 2:30 a.m., officers returned after the same man was said to have been kicking in the side door. The 42-year-old South Euclid man was arrested for trespassing. A bartender said the man was yelling threats while trying to get into the bar and believed he also caused damage to her car, which was parked next to the door. She signed a complaint for aggravated trespassing and aggravated menacing.

Property damage, South Belvoir Boulevard:

A woman reported a racial term was scratched into the side of her vehicle while it was parked at Giant Eagle May 15. She said she had not been having problems with anyone and did not suspect anyone of causing the damage.

Theft, South Green Road:

A woman reported May 10 her son's iPhone was stolen from the front seating area at the South Euclid library May 6. A librarian told officers they were able to identify, through surveillance video, the person who took the phone, but could not provide any further information without a subpoena. The woman said at one point, she tracked the phone to a location near Shaker Boulevard. The incident is under investigation.

Suspicious activity, Freemont Road:

A woman said May 11 she believed her landlord came into her house without her knowing and threw things around the home. She only reported an old laptop computer missing. She said she has been having issues with the 32-year-old man and he has not returned her calls since before Easter. There were no signs of forced entry and the woman was told to call police if the man shows up unannounced in the future.
