Brainerd firefighters stay busy over weekend, Monday

The Brainerd Fire Department was busy Monday, responding to three crashes and a fire alarm.

On Monday, firefighters responded to a crash at 8:14 a.m. Monday on Highway 371 South and Glory Road, but were canceled en route. Then at 8:43 a.m., firefighters responded to a rollover crash on Highway 18.

At 11:04 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire alarm on the 15000 block of Edgewood Drive in Baxter. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the alarm company was testing the system. At 11:28 a.m., firefighters responded to a crash that resulted in a fatality on Highway 25 and Crow Wing County Road 144.

Firefighters also were busy over the weekend.

Firefighters responded to a call at 5:17 p.m. Friday to a possible gas leak on the 1100 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast. Firefighters investigated, shut off the gas and extinguished a nearby recreational fire. Several homes were evacuated. CenterPoint Energy arrived on scene and firefighters cleared at 6:13 p.m.

Firefighters also were called at 6:21 p.m. Friday to Barrows Avenue and Business Highway 371 for a one-vehicle rollover. Firefighters arrived on scene, stabilized the vehicle and removed a patient from a vehicle.

There were three calls Saturday, beginning at 7:03 a.m. for a fire alarm on the 100 block of Buffalo Hills Lane. Firefighters investigated and determined to be defective alarm. At 11:18 a.m. there was a garage fire on the 8600 block of 20th Street. Firefighters extinguished the fire, did overhaul and investigated. Firefighters cleared the scene at 12:16 p.m. The third call was a fire alarm at 12:42 p.m. on the 700 block of Laurel Street. Firefighters investigated and determined it was an accidental alarm.

Firefighters had two calls Sunday. At 1:06 p.m., there was a fire alarm on the 1400 block of Maple Street. Firefighters were canceled en route. At 4:29 p.m. a one-vehicle rollover was reported on Business Highway 371 near Crow Wing County Road 21. Firefighters were canceled en route five minutes later.
