May 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Kolar:

Byra Reddy and Padmamma, the parents of Priya Reddy (17), were produced before the JMFC court in Srinivaspur taluk on Tuesday.

The court has remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days. The accused have been lodged in the Kolar sub-jail. Their minor son, who helped the father in the crime, was sent to the Juvenile Home in Kolar Gold Fields, the police said. Priya was allegedly killed by her father for falling in love with a boy from the Bhovi community (Dalit) on May 22.

Meanwhile, district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has termed the incident as heinous and inhuman. “The gruesome murder of the girl by her own father shows the extent of cruelty and discrimination that caste system brings in,” said CPI(M) district secretary Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy in a press release.
