Spencer/Columbus quarterback Calvin Lenz drops back to look like he's passing before he runs with the ball against Altoona, Friday, October 2, 2015, at Beell Stadium in Marshfield. Lenz's Rockets beat Altoona 39-0.

MARSHFILED — Even though it's a nonconference game, when Edgar takes on Spencer/Columbus, this is the big game in the area.

Both teams are ranked — Edgar is No. 4 in the small schools division in the latest AP poll and the Rockets are rated ninth in the middle schools division — adding a little extra excitement to the matchup.

Edgar lost for the first time this season last Friday to Marathon and will want to get back on track, while S/C wants to just keep winning.

When Owen-Withee and Athens square off, the Cloverwood Conference is usually on the line. Athens has one loss and needs to win to be in a position to share the title with undefeated Abbotsford, the Bluejays Week 9 opponent.

The Blackhawks have two losses, but like Athens, have already accumulated enough wins to be playoff eligible.

Two teams that need conference wins to earn playoff consideration are Stratford and Auburndale and they happen to be locking horns this week. Stratford needs one win and Auburndale two.

Marshfield, like Auburndale, must win twice to be .500 in the Valley Football Association South Division and travel to Titan Stadium Friday for a matinee game, 5 p.m. against Oshkosh North.

Other games on the Week 8 schedule include, Osseo-Fairchild at Colby, Fall Creek at Neillsville, Greenwood/Granton at Gilman and Abbotsford at Loyal. All games are 7 p.m. Friday unless otherwise noted.

Here are five games that highlight the Week 8 schedule.
