ATLANTA (AP) — Delta Air Lines plans to cut an undisclosed number of management and salaried jobs to boost productivity in the face of sluggish revenue growth.

Spokeswoman Ashley Black said Monday that Delta would cut some salaried jobs but continue to hire flight attendants, pilots and other frontline employees. Delta has about 10,000 management and salaried workers.

Key revenue measure still falling at Delta Air Lines; fare wars taking a toll?

Delta reported $2.23 billion in net income for the first six months of this year, more than double its profit a year earlier, due to lower fuel prices. Delta's fuel spending in the first half of this year dropped 29%, a savings of $1.37 billion.

Revenue, however, rose just 3% in the first half and 1% in the second quarter, compared with the same periods of 2014, and a key measure of revenue for each seat flown one mile dropped 4.6% in the second quarter on lower average fares.

Black said the company's performance was strong. "Still, as with any company focused on long-term success, we must continue to look for ways to improve productivity and stay nimble particularly given that revenue has declined this year," she said in an emailed statement.
