The feat of 19-year-old O’Connor, who rides out with Eugene O’Sullivan, becomes all the more meritorious when one considers that he only recorded his initial career success aboard Matthew Daly’s Hit The Upright at the Corbeagh House fixture in Co Longford just seven days earlier.
The north Corkonian opened his account aboard Tillys Delight (8/1) in the first division of the opening four-year-old mares’ maiden.
The sweet-jumping grey Tillys Delight, who still held placed prospects when unseating two out on her debut at Curraheen last May, made most of the running and she asserted from the second last to effortlessly beat Milan Dancer by four lengths.
“She jumped super today and I bought her as a foal,”said Tillys Delight’s owner/trainer Patrick Doyle.
Teenager O’Connor later doubled up aboard Newtown Lad (10/1), trained by Adamstown-based Kieran Roche, in the five and six-year-old geldings’ maiden. Newtown Lad, an excellent sixth behind Jack The Wire on his debut at Dromahane last season, asserted from the second last to slam Fortune Bound by an unchallenged 20 lengths in the colours of brothers’ James and Ger Rochford from Cleariestown.
Paul Cawley (22) likewise departed with two winners, both of whom were supplied by Denis Hogan with the pair opening their account courtesy of Lady London (5/4) in the second instalment of the four-year-old mares’ maiden.
The previously-once raced Lady London bravely answered every call to come a second time from the final fence en-route to defeating Pretty Miss Mahler by a neck.
Ex-track performer Easy To Find (5/1) completed the Hogan/Cawley brace in the five-year-old and upwards mares’ maiden. The five-year-old Easy To Find mastered long-time leader Cloneen Dream from the last to score by two and a half lengths in the familiar silks of owner/breeder Tim Conroy.
Chris O’Donovan (19) made his initial mount for Adrian Maguire, whom he now rides out with three days a week, a victorious one by landing the open lightweight aboard Two Rockers (6/4).
Last season’s four-time winner Two Rockers led from the third fence and he clearly had the measure of runner-up Sydney Paget from after two out, the winning margin being two and a half lengths. Two Rockers will now be aimed at the Down Royal hunters chase over Christmas.
Michelle Duggan from Laharn sent out her very first winner as a handler when Strideout Euro (6/1) made light of a 20-month absence by surviving a final fence blunder with Declan Queally to beat the gallant King Willie in the winners of one. Strideout Euro, representing Noreen Lynam from Dublin, will now take his chance in another winners contest.
Colin Motherway steered newcomer Crank Em Up (10/1), whom he also trains for his wife Linda, to a clearcut success in the first division of the four-year-old geldings’ maiden.
The patiently-ridden Crank Em Up took command at the final fence to score by four lengths.
The Timmy Hyde-trained Robin Roe justified 5/4 favouritism (from 6/4) in the second part of this same contest. Robin Roe, runner-up on his sole start last season at Loughbrickland back in March, made his way past Minella Beau on the approach to the final fence and Brian Linehan’s mount saw off the staying-on Laser Light by one and a half lengths.
