Li Bingbing Replaces Fan Bingbing In “Meg”

Chinese actress Li Bingbing is in final talks to star opposite Jason Statham and Jessica McNamee in the prehistoric shark action thriller “Meg” at Warner Bros. Pictures, Flagship Entertainment and Gravity Pictures.

Li Bingbing will take on the role that Fan Bingbing had originally been cast in. The latter had to depart due to scheduling issues.

In the film which is based on Steve Alten’s 1997 novel, an international underwater observation program comes under attack by an unknown danger with their submersible disabled at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Statham will portray a former naval captain and expert deep-sea diver who’s recruited for a likely suicide mission – even though years before he faced the same predator – an ancient shark known as a Megalodon – who forced him to abort his mission and abandon half his crew.

Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure”) will direct while Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson are producing. “Meg” is targeting a March 2nd 2018 release.
