MetroPCS Customers Get Their 'Music Unlimited' & More Data That Lasts Even Longer

MetroPCS today announced three major updates that, combined, give customers more high-speed data and make that data go even farther. T-Mobile's (News - Alert) flagship prepaid brand is adding an extra 1GB of high-speed data to its most popular plans and an extra 2GB more Mobile Hotspot tethering to its Unlimited 4G LTE (News - Alert) plan, up to 8GB from 6GB. To make that data work even harder, MetroPCS is introducing Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer. Now, MetroPCS customers on qualifying plans can stream all the music they want from any of 33 music streaming services - with more being added all the time - without ever using up their high-speed data with Music Unlimited. And, with Data Maximizer, MetroPCS customers can watch up to three times more streaming video than before using the same amount of data. All that without paying a penny more.

"Once again we are setting MetroPCS apart from the rest of the pack in ways that no one else will," said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US. "MetroPCS is the #1 brand in prepaid because we keep giving customers more of what they want, and today that means adding Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer to the list! Their data will last longer than ever before without ridiculous penalty fees or trickery!"

As people stream more and more music and video on their smartphones, wireless data just doesn't go as far as it used to. In fact, a full two thirds (67%) of MetroPCS customers with 2GB of high-speed data now use up every last bit of their high-speed data by the third week of the month.

With Music Unlimited, all MetroPCS customers with 3B or more of 4G LTE will be able to listen to any of 33 music streaming services while on T-Mobile's network without ever touching their high-speed data. Music Unlimited includes everything from Pandora, Spotify, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio and Apple (News - Alert) Music to smaller niche services. And more music streaming services are being added all the time.

With the new Data Maximizer, MetroPCS customers can watch up to three times more streaming video from nearly all video services-from YouTube (News - Alert) to Netflix to your friend's Periscope feed. T-Mobile's proprietary technology achieves this by optimizing streaming video for mobile device screens, maximizing resolutions at DVD or better quality while minimizing data consumption. And, as always with the Un-carrier, the customer is in control. MetroPCS customers can simply turn Data Maximizer off and on at any time in their personal MetroPCS account settings.

On top of that, MetroPCS is giving customers even more data on its most popular plans. The new MetroPCS rate plans for families (2 or more lines) include the following:

  • $25 / month - Unlimited talk, text & data with 1GB of 4G LTE data for each line, with Data Maximizer
  • $35 / month - Unlimited talk, text & data with 3GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 2GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $45 / month - Unlimited talk, text & data with 5GB of 4G LTE data for each line (up from 4GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer
  • $55 / month - Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data on your smartphone + 8GB of Mobile Hotspot tethering for each line (up from 6GB), now with Music Unlimited, Data Maximizer

Single lines (not on a family plan) are just $5 more per month. And as always, MetroPCS customers can use their high-speed data for Mobile Hotspot tethering, so they can turn their smartphone into a mobile hotspot to connect other devices to the Internet.

The new MetroPCS rate plans, Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer will be available starting Thursday, November 19th. For more information, see www.metropcs.com/moredata.
