Toyota Innova MPV officially unveiled as TEKS1M cab

The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) today officially unveiled the Toyota Innova as a Teksi 1Malaysia (TEKS1M) vehicle, joining fellow MPV Proton Exora as a brown cab. The handover ceremony was attended by taxi group representatives and associations.

It is hoped that the introduction of the Innova to the fleet will boost the number of TEKS1Ms operating in Klang Valley, Johor and Penang. The move is part of SPAD’s taxi industry transformation initiative.

“The Toyota Innova fulfils the criteria set by SPAD, especially in spaciousness, and it will be an additional option for taxi owners under the TEKS1M initiative,” said UMWT president Datuk Ismet Suki, who added that his company has received 300 orders for the Innova TEKS1M. UMWT is targeting sales of 700 units until the end of 2015.

The Innova is powered by a 136 PS/182 Nm 2.0 litre engine, and can be had with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox in pre-facelift TEKS1M spec.

With excise duty exemption, the MT is priced at RM72,551 and the AT costs RM75,333, OTR with GST and insurance (company commercial). Regular prices for the facelifted Innova are RM97,998 and RM102,831 for the 2.0E MT and 2.0E AT respectively (metallic, company private).

“When taxi service standards improve, the number of taxi passengers will also rise and so will the income of taxi drivers. In all of SPAD’s upgrade plans, we take into consideration all parties, taxi drivers and users alike. It will be a win-win situation where the driver gets better earnings and the rider enjoys a more comfortable service,” said SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.

SPAD is running a TEKS1M driver training programme in stages. Involving individual drivers as well as those who have migrated to TEKS1M, the “Profession Advancement Programme” is to raise awareness in terms of laws as well as driver ethics, while also raising professionalism in drivers.

Training modules include safety and courteous driving, techniques for service excellence, effective communications with passengers, financial planning and more. SPAD has so far trained 1,021 drivers, and the aim is for TEKS1M to be the best in its class in Asia by 2017.

Yes, the Innova is no doubt more expensive than the Exora, it is also more reliable and fuel saving.

You won’t go wrong with sushi cars.

Still better, he as well as the rest of his salesman better off enjoying “p** c*** c***g” inside jamban rather than ‘menyemak’ with rubbish junk comments with lots of free time available (same goes with his ‘beloved’ jamban junks UMW Toyota junk cars) since mentally sound and mind conscious buyers will boycott their junk car anyway (if still want a sushi cars, buyers already go for Honda and even Nissan and Mazda).

If you choose to go to hell with sushi cars or ask sushi cars to go to hell… we won’t ask you to get out of Malaysia or Japan (like the Proton fanboys do).

Good price (in your dream la). even without tax also still bloody expensive (although i don’t really like Protong, but fact is fact. Protong Esoklah basic manual with CPS 1.6 engine cost only RM56k even slapped with 65% duty and 6% GST). Even with 65 – 75% excise duty slapped into MPV it cost RM97k after 6% GST. Therefore, it implies that UMW Toyota still as usual maintain their bloody fat profit margin at the expense of dumb tai lan ngong buyers and customers with ‘cheap’ jamban junk vehicles.

Takata airbags is just a very small issue when you compare the amount of accidents and deaths due to lack of stability control

So to be a taxi driver , I must buy this car?. Still have to pay daily teksi fee to cronies so might as well join Uber. At least no need to fork out so much money.

Wah So expensive for a MPV. Might as well use Perodua Alza or Proton Persona better as Teksi. 50k only.. Probably lesser if Proton and Perodua give discount.

The appeal is definitely there. The Innova is cheap to run. Very cheap. Plus being a Toyota, it is not so complicated to repair since after all, this one features the dinosaur age tech anyway.

Having said that, Toyota should have considered to bring in a diesel Innova, that would make it even cheaper to run.

the bottom line is, innova had been utilised by cab drivers in sarawak for years already.
    so, no big deal.

If Teksi 1 Malaysia no longer a Proton, it should not called as teksi 1 Malaysia.

    Just call as Teksi

But I support the idea to use Innova as Teksi, Proven in country like Thailand, Vietnam. this are reliable car

Toyota should sell the ‘civilian’ version of this Innova. Can anyone estimate what is the excise duty of a RM 72.5K Innova?
    Will it still be ‘affordable’?
