Kirksville’s Maymie Morton Spencer celebrated her 100th birthday with a party Saturday afternoon at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

Spencer and her late husband, Willis, owned and operated Spencer’s Studio on North Elson Street for more than 30 years until their retirement.

Born July 26, 1915 to Harve and Nancy Hogg Morton in Worthington, Spencer was the youngest of four girls. She married Willis Spencer on June 20, 1931 and they had two children, Diane and Douglas.

The Spencers were married for 64 years before Willis Spencer died in 1996.

Maymie Spencer has eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.

Spencer moved to Twin Pines in 2009 after previously volunteering at Twin Pines as part of the group who put on the bible study program from her church, Hamilton Street Baptist Church.

Spencer is a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

“Oh, just enjoying every minute of it,” Spencer said when asked the key to reaching 100 years. “The main thing is having lots of friends. I sure do and I love each and every one of you.”
