YOU Magazine: Little girl’s dream is reality
MARSHFIELD – Ever since she can remember, Marshfield native Amanda “Mandy” Zschernitz has wanted to own her own business. Earlier this year, that dream became a reality when she opened A-Z Massage.
“My dad had his own business when I was growing up and my sister recently started her own business,” she said. “I guess it runs in the family.”
Mandy’s sister, Tanya Genett, owns Polished Oasis Nail Salon. With both sisters’ businesses located in City Hall Plaza, visitors can stop downstairs for a pedicure with Tanya and then travel up to the third floor for a massage with Mandy.
Before embarking on the road to entrepreneurship, Mandy received her Bachelor’s in Accounting online from Lakeland College. She continues using those skills at her job at a manufacturing company in Marshfield doing customer service work/accounting.
After attending Health Touch Spa and School of Massage in Rothschild to become a massage therapist, Mandy opened A-Z massage in August. She currently gives massages part time, with no immediate plans to open full-time.
“I’m a workaholic,” said Mandy. “I still enjoy doing accounting work and I’m very fortunate that my employer is pretty flexible with my work schedule so that I am able to do both jobs.”
As a Licensed Massage Therapist, Mandy enjoys helping people relieve pain and stress.
“I have gotten massages for quite some time and am always amazed at how great I feel afterwards,” she said.
“The best part of my job is seeing how much massage helps my clients.”
“I’ve had clients come in with bad headaches and by the end of their session, they feel great,” said Mandy. “I think the best one so far was a client that could not bend over when she came in. After her session, she came out and bent over to pick up her purse without even wincing.”
Mandy’s goals include growing her new business and helping more people feel good.
“Every business wants to be successful, so I would like to make sure that I am meeting the needs of my clients,” said Mandy. “I would also like to continue my massage career and pursue additional modalities (massage techniques). I would like to learn to do hot stone massages and sports massage soon.”
In her limited free time, Mandy enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, reading, crocheting and spending time with friends and family.■
