Drunk cyclist nabbed for urinating while facing traffic: Solon police blotter

Disorderly conduct, Solon Road: At 5:15 p.m. May 20, police charged a Bedford Heights man, 46, with disorderly conduct after an officer saw the man, standing beside his bicycle, urinating on the road while facing traffic. The man, who smelled of alcohol, told the officer that he had "a lot" to drink.

Theft, Aurora Road: At 8:20 a.m. May 20, a Garrettsville woman, 20, who was working out at Planet Fitness, 33605 Aurora Road, reported that her purse had been stolen from a locker. The woman told police that the locker was not locked.

The thief went on to use the woman's debit card at a Sunoco gas station.

Theft, Parkside Trail: At 8:30 a.m. May 21, a resident notified police that he had found someone's purse on his front lawn. Police located the purse's, owner, who lives on the same street as the man. She said the purse had been in her unlocked car, parked in her driveway, when stolen the previous night.

Nothing was missing from the purse.

A short time later, a Brainard Road resident reported that someone stole her purse from her unlocked car, also parked in her driveway, during the previous evening. Police have no suspects.

Domestic violence, Highland Drive: Just after 4 p.m. May 21, a woman reported that she had been strangled and threatened by her ex-husband, 36. The man also said, as he put a gun in his waistband, that he would kill the woman's boyfriend.

The man was gone when police arrived. A warrant has been issued for the ex-husband on a domestic violence charge. Police in the community where the boyfriend lives were alerted about the threat.

Attempted breaking and entering, Old South Miles Road: At 10:10 a.m. May 22, the owner of Emshoff Excavating, 32145 Old South Miles Road, reported that someone removed a screen and broke an office window. The burglar did not gain entry.

Theft, Aurora Road: At 1:20 p.m. May 22, an employee of Champs Sports, 33345 Aurora Road, reported that he suspected a man and woman who were in the store of stealing merchandise.

When the couple saw the employee looking at them, the man yelled words into his cell phone and the two quickly left.

Surveillance video showed that the man stuffed several shirts into his pants. The total value of the stolen items is between $120-$160.

OVI, Richmond Road: At 5:45 a.m. May 24, police responded to the scene of a one-car crash. The driver, a Macedonia man, 56, told police he is diabetic.

A rescue squad was called and the man refused to allow paramedics to perform a blood test. He was then taken to a hospital emergency room, where he again refused to be blood tested, and was released. The man also refused to take a breath test.

Because police smelled the odor of alcohol on his person, and due to other signs of impairment, the man was arrested and charged with OVI, as well as failure to control, and possession of marijuana.

OVI, Cochran Road: At 1:40 a.m. May 25, police stopped a car after it was seen swerving into another lane. As the car passed police, the driver activated a white light bar on top of his vehicle, temporarily blinding the officer.

During the stop, as the man, 40, of Cleveland, got out of his car, a bag of marijuana fell from his lap. A half-empty bottle of vodka was found in the glove box.

The man refused to take a breath test and field sobriety tests.

Based on the evidence, which included the man's glassy-eyed appearance, he was charged with OVI, as well as open container, drug possession, driving left of center and driving under suspension.

Failure to maintain physical control, S.O.M. Center Road: Just after 3 a.m. May 25, an officer discovered in the Dunkin Donuts lot, 6353 S.O.M. Center Road, a 19-year-old Solon man sitting in his car. The man was impaired and had with him an open bottle of vodka.

The man refused to take field sobriety tests and a breath test. He was charged with physical control and underage possession of alcohol.
