Kansas Clinches Outright Men’s Basketball Title

No. 3 Kansas clinched sole possession of the Big 12 Conference regular season title with a 77-67 victory over Texas at the Frank Erwin Center.

Kansas (26-3, 14-2 Big 12) notches 26 overall wins for the third-straight season and the 10th time in the 14 seasons under head coach Bill Self.

The Jayhawks have won or shared 13 consecutive regular season crowns in the Big 12, tying UCLA (1967-79) for the most consecutive conference titles in college basketball history.

"It has been an unbelievable run but if you watch that video (played inside Allen Fieldhouse after the game) you can understand why you'd win 13," Self said after the team clinched a share of the crown versus TCU earlier in the week. "There has been a lot of hard-rocking guys that have played here over that time frame. We've been really blessed to coach a lot of really good players."

The Jayhawks have won an NCAA-leading 60 overall regular-season conference titles, which includes 17 crowns as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

Kansas has won nine of the 13 crowns outright and all but three have led to the Jayhawks earning the No. 1 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship.

KU has clinched the No. 1 seed in this year’s postseason conference championship and will open as the top seed with the second quarterfinal game on Thursday, March 9. The Jayhawks will face the winner of the contest between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds.
